I am a iirparakuyo Maasai and I am deeply proud of it.
Many people think the Maasai are a single people, but in reality there are several groups, each with its own history, traditions, and territory. Besides the Parakuyo, there are also the Kisongo, Irpurko, Loitaii, Waarusha and also the Samburu, the latter particularly well-known in Kenya.
While sharing the same values and the same deep connection to nature, each group maintains its own identity. My tribe is known for its strong sense of belonging, mutual respect, and the unity that binds the entire community.
Being a Maasai is not just my origins: it is my way of life.
I lost my father when I was still young. He was the chief of our village, a kind and wise man who was deeply respected by the entire community. After his passing, I was entrusted with the important responsibility of becoming the chief of the village.
In our community, the spirit of togetherness is one of our most important values. We are cattle herders, and everyone contributes through their work to the well-being of the whole community.
As the village chief, my role is to care for the community, listen to its people, and make sure everything runs as smoothly as possible.
It is a responsibility that I carry with pride and dedication every single day.
For generations, we Maasai have been cattle herders, raising mainly cattle, goats, and sheep. Our lives are deeply connected to this tradition, which remains an important part of our identity. However, over the years, livestock farming alone has no longer been enough to support the community.
Thanks to my studies, I became a professional safari guide. I started working with several tour operators, gaining valuable experience and accompanying travelers from all over the world as they discovered Tanzania and other African destinations.
Then I met Erika. I saw something special in her eyes—a genuine passion for my beloved Tanzania. Her enthusiasm inspired me, and I realized that we shared the same dream: to give people the opportunity to experience the true, authentic Africa. That’s how our journey together began, and I became part of MasaiAdventure.
I was born and raised in the Tanzanian savannah, a land that is not only my home, but also my greatest teacher.
I attended primary and secondary school in Handeni, where I grew up dreaming of becoming a veterinarian. Since I was a child, I have always felt a deep connection with animals and nature, but continuing my studies was not possible due to my family’s financial difficulties.
After secondary school, I was able to continue my education by attending a professional safari guide training school in Arusha, transforming my passion into my profession. After completing my studies, I had the opportunity to gain experience in Kenya and South Africa, continuing to deepen my knowledge of wildlife, ecosystems, and responsible tourism.
My training taught me a great deal about animal behaviour and the importance of protecting nature, but growing up in the savannah gave me something that no book can teach: the ability to understand its rhythms, respect its balance, and feel a true connection with the wild.
Today, I share my Tanzania with travellers from all over the world, offering not only the knowledge of a professional guide, but also the perspective of someone who was born from this land and carries its stories and emotions in his heart.
I love my job because it allows me to be in contact with nature every day and to help our guests discover not only the extraordinary beauty of Tanzania, but also what truly makes this country special.
The real wealth of my country is not only found in its breathtaking landscapes and wild animals. It is found in the simplicity of its people, their hospitality, their smiles, their kindness, and the love for life that can be felt every day.
The greatest joy for me is welcoming our guests as if they were part of our family, sharing the Maasai culture with them, and allowing them to experience the true daily life of Tanzania. Seeing the emotion in their eyes when they discover our land is the most beautiful gift and gives a deeper meaning to everything I do.
This is also why I embraced Erika’s vision, and together we chose to make MasaiAdventure an eco-solidarity project. We work with local people because we believe that tourism should create opportunities and bring benefits to the local community.
We don’t just take our guests on a journey to discover the most authentic side of Tanzania—we build bridges of hope and solidarity together.
We proudly support the Mbarati School in Mabalanga and have helped local health dispensaries. Thanks to the generosity of our travellers, our village has received precious rainwater harvesting tanks, an essential resource for our community. Some of our guests have also chosen to support the education of local children, helping them build a brighter future.
Every act of kindness, no matter how small, has the power to create lasting change.
To everyone who has stood beside us and helped us support our people, we offer our deepest and most heartfelt gratitude. Thank you for walking this journey with us and for leaving a legacy that will continue to make a difference for years to come.
